EASYFIT TACHOMETER (Rev Counter) REPAIR KITS
CLICK HERE TO BUY YOUR EASYFIT TACHOMETER REPAIR KIT
Our EasyFit tacho repair kits have been developed to provide an easy way of repairing Smiths tachometers (rev counters) found in many Classic Cars. The Easyfit kits are designed to directly replace the original circuit board using the existing mounting points and this makes the fitting very straightforward. The kit is supplied with gel filled insulation displacement connectors so no soldering is required and calibration is quick and easy using the built in stand alone calibration mode (no phone or computer required).
What goes wrong with Smiths tachometers ?
Smiths tachometers often fail because of faulty electronics or in other cases they are not useable because the vehicle has been upgraded to have electronic ignition.
Another common problem is that the early RV type tachometers rely on a "tacho generator" to produce the drive signal for the tachometer. These tacho generators often fail or become inaccurate over time and are difficult and expensive to replace. Our repair kit overcomes this problem by allowing the tachometer to work directly from the ignition coil so that no tacho generator is required.
How does the EasyFit repair kit work?
The EasyFit repair kit replaces the tachometer electronics with modern surface mount technology. The replacement circuit board fits easily onto the rear of the existing movement with no need to remove the needle or dial. The new electronics takes its signal directly from the ignition coil so no Tacho generator is required.
Which tachometers can be repaired with the EasyFit kit?
The EasyFit repair kit is specifically designed for Smiths / Jaeger RV and RVI type tachometers. These tachometers can be easily identified as they have the letters "RV" or "RVI" marked on the dial (note that this lettering is very small and is sometimes at the bottom of the dial or at the base of the needle). The kit is not suitable for RVC type tachos or tachos with an internal diameter less than 82mm. Some early RV tachos have a different mounting hole arrangement which is not compatible with the kit - You can check this HERE. If you have a tacho which is not compatible with the EasyFit Kit then please see our UniTacho Kit which fits a wider range of tachos.
Which cars is the kit suitable for?
The kit is suitable for 4, 6 or 8 cylinder cars with positive or negative earth.
Will the repaired tacho be compatible with my car's ignition system?
The EasyFit tacho repair kit is compatible with contact breakers and with most electronic ignition systems. It has been tested with Accuspark, Powerspark, Lumenition and 123 Ignition systems. If you have a high energy ignition system with current limiting please contact us for advice. The kit is not designed for use with CDI ignition systems, however, if your CDI system has a tacho output signal this may be compatible - please ask for details.
What's involved in fitting the EasyFit kit?
The kit is very straight forward to fit - click here see our detailed fitting instructions and click here watch our video fitting guides.
