Tachometer Repair Kit Fitting Instructions
These repair kits will repair three different types of Smiths tachometer - see below to choose the correct fitting instructions for your tachometer. There is a separate set of vehicle installation instructions which applies to all tachometer types.
RV type - These have the letters "RV" marked in small lettering on the dial. They were originally driven from a Tacho Generator on the vehicle. Once the repair kit is fitted the tachometer will be driven directly from the ignition coil with no need for a tacho generator,
RVI Gen 1 Type - These have the lettering "RVI" marked on the dial and are driven from the ignition coil current. The ignition coil feed wire is looped through a transformer on the back of the case.
RVI Gen2 Type - These also have "RVI" marked on the dial. They are driven from the ignition coil current but the connection is via two bullet connectors on the back of the case.
RV type - These have the letters "RV" marked in small lettering on the dial. They were originally driven from a Tacho Generator on the vehicle. Once the repair kit is fitted the tachometer will be driven directly from the ignition coil with no need for a tacho generator,
RVI Gen 1 Type - These have the lettering "RVI" marked on the dial and are driven from the ignition coil current. The ignition coil feed wire is looped through a transformer on the back of the case.
RVI Gen2 Type - These also have "RVI" marked on the dial. They are driven from the ignition coil current but the connection is via two bullet connectors on the back of the case.
